GulfQuest’s unique facility overlooking the Mobile River, houses replicas, simulators, and interactive exhibits that bring their topic to life. Explore everything from Mobile’s early waterfront, shipwrecks, marine life, weather, maritime commerce, shipbuilding, and on.

The nearly 100 exhibits are located on the various decks of a life-sized container ship replica inside the museum! The building is unique enough to be worth your attention, with lots of seating to watch the Port of Mobile.

Container Ship Exhibit Hall
It’s hard to not be stunned by the first thing you see when you step inside the museum. GulfQuest’s container ship of museum exhibits isn’t just full sized. It’s also stacked high with containers, surrounded by water, and appears to thrum with the sounds of its engines!

Take the Helm Theater
Navigate vessels around the Port of Mobile, Mobile Bay, and Tombigbee River on this simulator used to train professional boat pilots. Pick a scenario, weather conditions, and time of day, then take the controls and test your skills!

America’s Sea
This large, interactive map is the centerpiece of the Grand Lobby and allows you to explore all around the Gulf of Mexico. Four separate stations present the topics of Exploration, Combat, Commerce, and Environment.

Ocean Planet Theater
Engage with real satellite data and other images, projected onto a suspended, six-foot diameter, globe of our amazing ocean planet.

Food, Drink and More

Chances are, you’ll end up spending more time inside GulfQuest than you expected to, and that can mean hunger. Luckily, the museum also houses the only waterfront and outdoor dining on the Mobile River: The Galley cafe.

The Galley offers food and drinks, including beer and wine, plus a gorgeous view to enjoy as you dine. You can also amuse yourself with the interactive Shiptracker control station in each booth that displays the Gulf’s current shipping activity.
