Visit a Mobile AL Brewery for Craft Beer Tastes and Tours

Visit a Mobile AL Brewery for Craft Beer Tastes and ToursWhether you’re a craft beer enthusiast or just a locally-sourced food fan, you’ll be happy to know you can both sample and tour a Mobile AL brewery. The Mobile area has two breweries you can visit right now – with more on the way!

The craft beer brewing craze may seem like a fairly new thing but it’s really a return to a tradition. Back before prohibition, America, like the rest of the world sported a wide variety local and regional brewers. Tastes and traditions varied from state to state, town to town, brewer to brewer.

A return to many regional, small batch brewers enriches our country and makes travel that much more exciting. Craft brewers often offer limited and seasonal small-batch beers unavailable outside their tasting rooms. Most also have a limited distribution range, if any at all. This rarity makes the experience of visiting a craft brewery that much more memorable.

The Mobile AL brewery scene is small but growing.

Haint Blue Brewing Company ( ) is building a brewery and taproom in Mobile’s historic Crystal Ice House. It’s located at 806 Monroe Street and should be open sometime soon. Until then, you can enjoy a visit, taste, and tour at these other Mobile AL breweries.

Dumb Waiter Restaurant

968968f1096ee94d8b64b60ff0ba4c82 New restaurants are popping up all over the place lately in Downtown Mobile, Alabama. The Dumb Waiter is one, located on Dauphine Street in the heart of Downtown Mobile,  I had the pleasure of trying recently. The decor is really interesting. I’m not sure if you would call it modern but there are these old, vintage style light bulbs hanging from the ceiling by webs of old ropes that look like they may have come from an old shrimp boat. Wall to wall exposed brick and vintage paintings adorn the walls; this place is spacious to say the least, and that’s a good thing because every time I have been in there or walked by it is packed to the gills.

Chef Chris McElhaney studied under famed Louisiana Chef Emeril Lagasse and his menu is as interesting as the decor. I had the pork belly which I was very happy with. They also offer Locally Farmed Gulf Oysters as well as Cold Water Oysters. A few other stars on the menu are Chef Chris’ Shrimp and Grits, Alabama Benedict and the Dumb Waiter Burger. Deserts include Chocolate and Cherry Bread Pudding with Bourbon Caramel and Whipped Cream, Blueberry cream pie in a jar, Rustic Lemon Tart with Cream Cheese Crust and Citrus Vodka Infused Whipped Cream.  For the full menu follow the link
