October 10, 2017 by Corey A. Edwards

Alabama Pecan Festival 2017November is just a few weeks away and that means it is almost time for Alabama Pecan Festival 2017! If you love pecans – and who doesn’t – you will not want to miss this 32 year-old Alabama tradition. November 3rd through the 5th, 2017 in Mobile, AL.

When it comes to delicious desserts, pecan pie is hard to beat. Like pecan pie, Mobile’s Alabama Pecan Festival is rich, sweet, and over way faster than you you want it to be. The Alabama Pecan Festival is 3 days of pecan pies, cook-offs, carnival rides, concerts, craft vendors, and the crowning of the new Alabama Pecan Festival Queen!

Pecans have long been an important part of Alabama’s annual crop. Pecans were started here in the early 1900’s but didn’t reach consistent market maturity until the 1940’s. After that, the crops really started to take off. The annual festival is a simple salute to the success story of the Alabama pecan crop as well as the delicious little fruit that most of us think of as a nut: the pecan!

It may all seem like Greek to you but we think you’ll have one Hellenic of a good time at the annual Mobile Greek Fest. The food alone should be enough to tempt you. Gyros, Souvlaki, Spanakopita, Pastitso, Baklava, Loukoumades, and so much more will be on the air – and in your belly, should you attend.

Sip and sup on Greek pastry, Greek coffee, wine, beer and other delicacies at the festival, then take some home with a to-go dinner. There’s even a curb-side drive-through for those who want to celebrate Greek Fest on the go. Now that’s convenience!

Mobile Greek Fest is so much more than just a smorgasbord of ethnic food, however. Its a true celebration of the Greek culture that has been a part of Mobile – and the US – since the beginning. In fact, one of the best parts of Greek Fest is the opportunity to tour the beautiful Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church and witness the live music and Greek Dance Troupes.

Save Your Appetite for Taste of the Bayou 2015!

September 11, 2015 by Corey A. Edwards

Taste of the Bayou 2015Are you a fan of fine, fresh, southern seafood? Then get set for 27th annual Taste of the Bayou – held September 26th, 2015 in Irvington, AL. This popular, annual seafood contest sees cooking teams competing for the coveted title using only fresh Bayou La Batre seafood as their base – and your taste buds get to play judge!

You may be familiar with the town of Bayou La Batre for a number of pop-culture reasons: it was featured in both the book and film of “Forrest Gump;” it played initial harbor for the Black Pearl galleon, seen in Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean” film series; and the Bayou La Batre’s seafood industry served as centerpiece for the History channel’s popular “Big Shrimpin'” documentary series.

But Bayou La Batre’s real claim to fame is tied more closely to this latter reference than any other – and that’s because Bayou La Batre is a historical Gulf Coast fishing village famous for its local fishing/shrimping fleet and seafood-processing. So much fresh seafood comes through Bayou La Batre that it’s known as the Seafood Capital of Alabama.
