Bellingrath Gardens and Home is a 65-acre, lush public garden and historic home located just south of Mobile, AL. Bellingrath attracts a great many visitors to the Mobile area all year ’round with its immaculate grounds and special events.

One of the most popular annual events is Magic Christmas In Lights. The annual display is a Gulf Coast holiday tradition!

And why not? Who wouldn’t look forward to an annual stroll through 65-acres of stunning gardens bedecked in dazzling light?

Fort Gaines Christmas Through the Ages 2018Come celebrate a living history Christmas at one of the best preserved, 19th century shoreline fortifications on the east coast: Fort Gaines! The 34th annual Fort Gaines Christmas Through the Ages living history event is scheduled for December 8th, 2018.

Fort Gaines, located on the eastern tip of Dauphin Island, is always a great place to visit. The fort’s ramparts have been guarding the entrance to Mobile Bay since the early 1860’s.

In fact, construction on the fort began in 1821 but, due to a number of issues, it wasn’t finished until 1862. Mind you, it was completed after it had been captured by Southern troops!

Mobile Gears and Beers 2018Come to Mobile, AL this November for Gears and Beers 2018! This popular event includes four bike rides and an after-party at Fort Condé, the Fort of Colonial Mobile. November 10th, 2018.

There’s nothing quite like getting out in the open air on a bicycle and Mobile, AL is a great place for it. In fact, Gears and Beers has grown so popular that it had to be moved from downtown Mobile to Fort Condé!

The 4th annual return of Gears and Beers continues the trend with a bicycle ride for everyone!

Choose from the 8.2 mile fun ride, a 30, 60, or go all out on the 100 miler.

Greater Gulf State Fair 2018Summer may be on its way out but that doesn’t mean all the fun is over! The 2018 Greater Gulf State Fair is just around the corner: October 26th through November 4th, 2018.

The Greater Gulf State Fair may be fairly young, as state fairs go, but what it lacks in age, it makes up for in size and fun! The event may only 63 years old but it has the distinction of being Alabama’s largest state fair.

The fair runs for a full ten days, transforming The Grounds into a miniature city. It has its own power grid, police and medical control center, restaurants, and more.

Over 100,000 people come to the Greater Gulf State Fair every year. While it was created to serve of people of Lower Alabama, Lower Mississippi, and the Panhandle of Florida (thus the name) visitors are more than welcome to join in!

Ten Sixty Five (Ten65 … 1065 … you decide) Music Festival is Mobile’s free, annual, laid back street party celebrating music, local art, and Downtown Mobile. 2018’s headliners include Walker Hayes, Wet Willie, Big Boi, and Mayer Hawthorne!

This year’s event has a new tagline: “Music Tech & Culture.” Gulf Coast Code Camp has partnered with Ten65 to join music and technology in a one of a kind event: Ten65Tech. The Ten65Tech mission is education, networking, and growing the local tech community. What a great new direction for the festival’s format to evolve in – exciting!

Mobile Cuban Festival 2018Did you know Mobile, AL is a sister city to Havana, Cuba? It’s true! Come out to the first-ever Mobile Cuban Festival and learn more about Cuba, enjoy live music, food, and much more! May 5th, 2018, 10am to 5pm at the Mobile Museum of Art (MMofA).

Mobile, AL might not leap to mind when you think about the U.S. and Cuba – but maybe it should.

Mobile has been trading with Havana for over 315 years. Havana was Mobile’s biggest trading partner until the embargo. For many years, the two cities exchanged all manner of necessary goods: cotton, timber, paper, copper, salt, and more. Perhaps more surprising, Cuba’s love of baseball can be traced back to Mobile’s Spring Hill College.

150 years ago, two Cuban brothers returned to Havana after attending Mobile’s Spring Hill College and started Havana’s first baseball team. The rest, as I’m sure you know, is history.

Every Spring, Mobile’s Cathedral Square comes to life with the Downtown Cajun Cook-Off. The air will fill with the happy sounds of laughter, music, and the scent of delicious Cajun cuisine: green pepper, onion, celery, crawfish, shrimp, and andouille.

The Downtown Cajun Cook-Off was started in 2015 to replace the American Cancer Society Chili Cook-off after it outgrew Cathedral Square. Now in its fourth year, the Cajun Cook-Off continues to grow and is proving just as popular! More than 3500 people attended last year’s event and more are expected in 2018!

Experience a Fort Gaines Christmas and WWII Living History Event

Fort Gaines Christmas WWII Living History EventTwo special events are planned for this holiday season at Fort Gaines Historic Site on Dauphin Island. A WWII Living History Event on November 18th and the 34th Annual Fort Gaines Christmas Through the Ages on December 9th, 2017.

Fort Gaines’ battlements have guarded the entrance to Mobile Bay since 1862. It is considered one of the best preserved, 19th century shoreline fortifications on the east coast. A “Guardian of Mobile Bay,” Fort Gaines is part of the Mobile Bay Civil War Trail, which also includes Fort Morgan, Magee Farm, and Blakeley State Park.

Fort Gaines Historic Site is always good for a visit. Exploring the fortifications and learning about our country’s history can be especially fun and rewarding here. This is especially true when the fort is hosting one of its annual, special events.

When it comes to delicious desserts, pecan pie is hard to beat. Like pecan pie, Mobile’s Alabama Pecan Festival is rich, sweet, and over way faster than you you want it to be. The Alabama Pecan Festival is 3 days of pecan pies, cook-offs, carnival rides, concerts, craft vendors, and the crowning of the new Alabama Pecan Festival Queen!

Pecans have long been an important part of Alabama’s annual crop. Pecans were started here in the early 1900’s but didn’t reach consistent market maturity until the 1940’s. After that, the crops really started to take off. The annual festival is a simple salute to the success story of the Alabama pecan crop as well as the delicious little fruit that most of us think of as a nut: the pecan!

Gyros, Souvlaki, Spanakopita, Pastitso, Baklava, Loukoumades, and so much more will be on the air – and in your belly, should you attend.

Sip and sup on Greek pastry, Greek coffee, wine, beer and other delicacies at the festival, then take some home with a to-go dinner. There’s even a curb-side drive-through for those who want to celebrate Greek Fest on the go. Now that’s convenience!

Mobile Greek Fest is so much more than just a smorgasbord of ethnic food, however. Its a true celebration of the Greek culture that has been a part of Mobile – and the US – since the beginning. In fact, one of the best parts of Greek Fest is the opportunity to tour the beautiful Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church and witness the live music and Greek Dance Troupes.

Gulf Coast Ethnic & Heritage Jazz Festival 2017The Gulf Coast Ethnic & Heritage Jazz Festival, scheduled for July 24th to August 12th, 2017, brings an eclectic lineup of world-renowned jazz artists and up-and-coming acts to Mobile, AL.

The Gulf Coast Ethnic & Heritage Jazz Festival (GCEHJF) is a collection of jazz-related events that span more than a month. This Gulf Coast tradition is all about spreading the message of jazz music to anyone and everyone with ears and a pulse.

Festival organizers are quick to point out that “ethnic” means everybody and “heritage” is not some fixed point in the past. Inclusion and appreciation is what it’s all about!

The Festival begins in July with Marcus Johnson Summer Jazz Camp, a dynamic, 10-day learning experience, focusing on the history and fundamentals of Jazz. Though primarily begun for school-aged players, students have ranged in age from 6 to seniors. The session is capped off with a Summer Jazz Camp Recital that may surprise you as much as it entertains. These “students” can really play!

Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo 2017The Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo (ADSFR) is the world’s largest fishing tournament, scheduled for July 21st through the 23rd, 2017 on Alabama’s Dauhpin Island!

2017 marks the 84th anniversary of the Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo, which was listed as the world’s largest fishing tournament in the 2011 Guinness World Records, More than 3,000 anglers from at least 24 states are expected to spend 3 days fishing the Gulf of Mexico for up to one million dollars in cash and prizes. One Master Angler is awarded.

The Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo also hosts the Roy Martin Young Anglers Tournament (RMYAT) on July 15th, 2017.

Ring In 2017 With A MoonPie Over Mobile New Year’s Eve!Join thousands of revelers in downtown Mobile, December 31st, to hear classic rock band .38 Special at the annual MoonPie Over Mobile New Year’s Eve Celebration!

Upwards of 50,000 people are expected to fill downtown Mobile, AL at this year’s New Year’s Eve celebration, MoonPie Over Mobile. The event has become a true Mobile tradition since 2008, the first year the giant MoonPie descended the pole to mark the new year.

This year’s celebration includes a number of different attractions, beginning with the cutting of the world’s largest edible MoonPie! Each year, the Chattanooga Bakery creates a 154 pound MoonPie for the MoonPie Over Mobile event. The world’s largest edible MoonPie is then cut up and served on a first come, first served basis to the events revelers. The giant MoonPie often yields enough for more than 170 people!

Get Your Tickets For Dauphin Street Beer Festival 2016!

Dauphin Street Beer Festival 2016The 19th annual Dauphin Street Beer Festival 2016 is only days away, scheduled for August 27th! If you haven’t gotten your tickets or lodging yet, now is the time!

The Dauphin Street Beer Festival (DSBF) is a popular, annual event held every August in downtown Mobile. Over 30 taverns and restaurants offer samples of more than 90 different import and craft beers from all over the U.S. and the world!

On the night of the Mobile beer fest, ticket holders will go to the Crescent Theater on Dauphin Street. Here you will collect your DSBF writsband, mug, temporary membership card, venue map, and first sample of beer. After that, you’ll walk from venue to venue at your own pace and whim, sampling beers and generally enjoying yourself.

Tickets for Dauphin Street Beer Festival 2016 can be purchased online but don’t forget to register for the event, too!

Alabama law requires that you have a membership to enter private clubs. A temporary membership code is available for the night of the Dauphin Street Beer Festival. If you don’t have the code with you when you arrive at the Crescent Theater to pick up your mug and wristband, you wont be able to participate!

Taste of the Bayou 2016The 28th annual Taste of the Bayou, scheduled for September 24th, 2016 is almost here! Taste of the Bayou is a popular, annual seafood competition using fresh, Bayou La Batre seafood to compete – and you get to be the judge!

$80 million of commercial seafood come out of Bayou La Batre each year. Consequently, Bayou La Batre is known as the Seafood Capitol of Alabama! It makes total sense to have such an amazing event like this right here in Bayou La Batre.

Taste of the Bayou is the area’s premiere Southern seafood tasting event. It’s a seafood cooking competition and tasting event featuring seafood dishes prepared by teams of local chefs. The teams can compete in any or all of the 4 categories: General Seafood Dish -Restaurant, General Seafood Dish -Non-Restaurant, Gumbo, and Dessert.

The 58th Annual Dauphin Island Regatta

2016 Dauphin Island RegattaThe Dauphin Island Regatta, known as the largest single-day point-to-point race in the United States, will see hundreds of boats and over a thousand crew members in Mobile Bay April 23rd and 24th, 2016.

A two-day event featuring competitive sailing on Mobile Bay, the Dauphin Island Regatta is not just for sailors alone. Along with the excitement of the race in the bay, Dauphin Island itself hosts an diverse array of festivities all weekend long with private and public celebrations, live entertainment, food and drinks, art exhibits, and much more.

Typically, Dauphin Island Regatta competitors start off from the Mobile Yacht Club, near the entrance to the Dog River. The actual race usually begins in the middle of Mobile Bay and finishes at Dauphin Island. A return race on Sunday usually concludes the regatta.
