MoonPie Over Mobile - Mobile New Year's Eve 2017

When the moon hits your pie like a ... wait a minute. A MoonPie? Up in the sky? Why - it must be MoonPie Over Mobile, the Mobile New Year's Eve 2017 celebration! That's right: a MoonPie. You know what I'm talking about: every year, the good people of Mobile, AL come together to watch as a giant, 600 pound, electric MoonPie drops down a pole and a new year is announced. That's a Mobile New Year's Eve in a nutshell (or a MoonPie wrapper). For more details (like the inclusion of George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic) read on! MoonPie Over Mobile 2017 is looking more fun and fabulous than ever. Tastes of the World’s Largest MoonPie, a second-line parade, live music, fireworks, a laser light-show, and more. This year's Mobile New Year's Eve entertainment opens with the high-energy country, Southern rock, and pop stylings of The Springs. This year's headliner is none other than the legendary George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic! Hard as it may be to believe with Parliament Funkadelic on the ticket, the evening's biggest star (figuratively and literally) is probably the world’s largest edible MoonPie. Every year, Chattanooga Bakery, the maker of the MoonPie, creates a giant version of the treat for the Mobile New Year's Eve celebration. MoonPies are more popular in Mobile than any other city. More than four million MoonPies are annually consumed here, and MoonPies play a large role as "throws" in our Mardi Gras. We just can't get enough of those round, chocolate covered, marshmallow-stuffed, graham crackers. More than over 50,000 people show up each New Year’s Eve in hopes of getting a piece of that giant MoonPie and then to watch as another, giant MoonPie counts down the seconds to the New Year. One event signals the beginning of MoonPie Over Mobile, the other the end - with plenty in between!
