It's time for the annual Grand Bay Watermelon Festival once again - July 3rd and 4th, 2016 - providing you an opportunity to enjoy some delicious Alabama-grown watermelon as well as live music, arts & crafts, and more!
Held in part to pay homage to Grand Bay's farmers, in part to celebrate the delicious, thirst quenching watermelon namesake, the Grand Bay Watermelon Festival has been a local, Independence Day tradition since 1973. The festival actually goes back at least as far as 1949 but died out for a number of years before being revived in the early 70's. Popular and now held to coincide with our nation's Fourth of July celebrations, this beloved local event has been going strong ever since.
And why wouldn't it be?
The Grand Bay Watermelon Festival is a wonderful, hometown way to celebrate summer: all the free, fresh sliced, locally grown watermelon you can eat, carnival rides, vendors selling hand-made arts & crafts, petting zoo and pony rides for the kids, gospel music,
and lots of great food to eat: bbq ribs, chicken on a stick, sandwiches, hamburgers, hotdogs, Polish sausage, ice-cream, sno-cones, doughnuts, and much more!
And let's not forget the
Grand Bay Watermelon Festival Annual Shine & Show car show, on the 4th! Shine & Show is an annual car show composed of local and regional hotrods, classic cars, custom cars, and trucks, motorbikes and more! Vote in the People’s Choice to help determine 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. Come browse the beauties and, if you want, show off your own - but be sure to get it
pre-registered by June 20th!
The 4th will also see the popular
Pretty Baby Contest, where proud parents will present and parade their pup to the eager crowd in hopes of winning the prize for prettiest baby (or, at the very least, a close runner-up).
So come on out for the Grand Bay Watermelon Festival and take a big ol' bite of good, old fashioned, small-town America this Fourth. You'll have the time of your life.
