Gyros, souvlaki, spanakopita, pastitso, baklava, loukoumades ... Now that I have your undivided attention (or at least that of your stomach) I can tell you all about the upcoming Mobile Greek Festival. The annual celebration of everything Greek has been a Mobile tradition since 1963. The fest is a great place to discover Mobile's Greek culture and sample delicious Greek dishes. You'll also enjoy an opportunity to buy imported and handmade gifts, as well as tour Mobile's historic Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.

Mobile's Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church

Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church was Mobile's first Greek Orthodox parish. It celebrated its first mass in 1912. Greek Orthodox churches are known for their domed architecture, decorative furnishings, and priests' elaborate vestments. In these and other areas, Mobile's Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church does not disappoint. In fact, one of the best aspects of Greek Fest are the church tours. The church opens its doors during the festival so that guests may get an up close look at all the classic architecture and rich iconography. Visitors can enjoy a self-guided tour or follow along with an informative guide.

Food and Fun at Mobile GreekFest

One of the biggest draws to the Mobile Greek Festival has to be all the amazing food. Come indulge yourself with pork and chicken souvlaki, keftedes, gyros, lamb on a spit, and, of course, lots of Greek pastries. To drink there will be Greek wine, beer, and even Greek coffee. Bottled water and soft drinks round out the drink options. Food at the festival is served inside and outside for your convenience. You can also order food-to-go. Enjoy your time at the festival, then order up a box of assorted, handmade Greek pastries for later! There's even a curbside menu for those on the go. Another popular attraction at the festival is the live music and dancing. Authentically attired Greek dance troupes and musicians will perform all three days of the festival. Come listen and watch as they demonstrate the traditional Mediterranean dances and music. You may also be surprised by a few modern tunes rendered in the classic Greek style. Vendors are also on hand during Mobile Greek Festival in the Plaka Shopping area. Here you will find a variety of offerings including edible Greek delicacies, along with imported or handmade apparel, jewelry, icons, paintings, and more.
