Every Spring, Mobile's Cathedral Square comes to life with the Downtown Cajun Cook-Off. The air will fill with the happy sounds of laughter, music, and the scent of delicious Cajun cuisine: green pepper, onion, celery, crawfish, shrimp, and andouille.
The Downtown Cajun Cook-Off was started in 2015 to replace the
American Cancer Society Chili Cook-off after it outgrew Cathedral Square. Now in its fourth year, the Cajun Cook-Off continues to grow and is proving just as popular! More than 3500 people attended last year's event and more are expected in 2018!
The Downtown Cajun Cook Off is a cooking contest between more than 20 different teams. Each team will do their best to create the best Cajun dish they can - and you're the judge! The competing teams will offer samples to the public throughout the 4 hour festival. Diners vote for their favorite by placing money in the jar at their favorite's booth. The team that collects the most money during the festival wins.
The annual Mobile Downtown Cajun Cook-Off is a fund-raiser, with proceeds going towards the Child Advocacy Center of Mobile. The Child Advocacy Center provides programs for abused children in the Mobile area. Last year's event raised nearly $80,000 for the Center! Consequently, you can attend - and even overindulge a bit - knowing that it's all for a good cause. What a great deal!
Tickets to the 2018 Downtown Cajun Cook-Off includes samples of every dish entered at the event - more than 20! Attendees will also enjoy live bands, a variety of beverages, door prizes, contests, and more.
