The Mobile-Tensaw Delta is a fascinating place where five rivers come together into Mobile Bay. When the Mobile, Spanish, Tensaw, Apalachee, and Blakeley rivers flow into Mobile Bay, it’s a collision of fresh and salt water. This mix of waters creates a rare environment for all manner of unique plants and animals.
The delta includes some 250,000 acres of scenic waterways, woods, and wetlands. This habitat supports over 500 types of plants, 126 species of fish, and more than 300 species of birds. 30 species of amphibians, 69 species of reptiles, and 40 species of mammals also call the delta home.
5 Rivers Delta Resource Center is located in Spanish Fort, AL. The center encompasses over 81 acres of the Mobile-Tensaw Delta for you to explore in a variety of ways. There are trails to hike, places to picnic, and endless photo opportunities.
Guided tours and field trips are available and several area outfitters offer canoe and kayak rentals. Airboat tours are also available, which are fun, but pontoon boat tours will let you get up closer to the delta’s wildlife. If you have the opportunity to experience a sunset cruise on the Mobile-Tensaw Delta, don’t pass it up!
5 Rivers also includes an impressive array of facilities. The 81-acre complex includes the Apalachee Exhibit Hall, Tensaw Theater, Blakeley Hall Conference Center, Delta Hall, and the Cypress Gift Shop. The center hosts a variety of special events throughout the year.
